Hello together,
I hope you all had a good start into the new year!
We are planning to apply for the Google Summer of Code again this year. And there is good news:
1. Participation is no longer conditional on being a student. You just have to be older than 18. 2. There are small and large projects. Large means that you would work on it full time for 10 weeks. Small means that you work on it 50% of the time for 10 weeks. 3. The duration of the project can be stretched. This means that the 10 weeks set aside for a project can be spread over up to 20 weeks.
For us, this has some advantages. The projects can be fitted into the participants' personal schedules. You can go on holiday in between, or take exams. In addition, we have the opportunity to involve many more people and to promote people who are close to the communities.
What needs to be done? In the current phase, we need to collect project ideas, because these will feed into the evaluation of our application. We collect the projects at https://projects.freifunk.net/#/projects and they can be edited in Github at https://github.com/freifunk/projects.freifunk.net-contents. It's best to use the month of January to go through your to-do lists :)
If you have any questions, you can always write to me. Please pass the info on to your communities as well!
Best regards
Andi
ps: please spread this message in your communities!
